We'll be straight with you: fat loss and muscle building are just the side effects.

Ironwood Gym was built specifically for people in recovery from substance use and mental health challenges. Every trainer on our floor is a Certified Peer Support Worker with lived experience in recovery.

When they say "I've been where you are" — they mean it.

This isn't just a place to come work out. This is what we call the four walls of opportunity: the opportunity to get better, to succeed, to find a healthy outlet and start replacing what's been holding you down. We built this gym for one reason, and that reason shows up in every session, every conversation, and every person who walks through our door.

What We Offer:

Personal Training

Group Fitness

Nutrition Coaching

Adolescent Training

There's no judgment when you walk in. There's no expectation about where you should be physically or emotionally. There's just someone who wants to hear your story and figure out how to help.

You'll complete a short intake and goal sheet that covers what you want, what you've been through, and where you want to go. From that sheet, we build your program. No templates. No guesswork. Just a plan built around you.

Why Fitness Belongs in Recovery

Your brain in addiction is starved of the chemicals it needs to feel okay: dopamine, serotonin, and endorphins. Exercise produces all three, naturally. But beyond the chemistry, what Ironwood gives you is something recovery desperately needs: structure, a reason to show up, and a community that actually wants you to.

We go through our 8-module recovery education program with every new client covering better sleep, reduced cravings, stress relief, confidence, and more. We want you to understand exactly why you're here. Not just to get healthy. To get free.

Once you feel what fitness can do for you in recovery, you get it. And you want more of it. Ironwood Gym is where you’ll find it.

Our Mission: Our mission is to show clients how fitness can be a powerful tool in helping them recover, stay sober, and with their mental health

Every trainer at Ironwood is in recovery. Not all of them went through treatment programs but all of them have lived inside addiction and found their way out. Some of them walked through Cottonwood's doors as clients before they ever stood on this floor as staff. They came back because they wanted to give what was given to them.

That shared experience changes everything about what happens in a session: the honesty, the trust, the way a client opens up when they realize their trainer genuinely gets it.

Who Is Ironwood For?

Ironwood was built for Cottonwood IOP and Aftercare clients, which means your membership is completely free. It's for residents at Brenda's House of Hope, who train here five mornings a week as a core part of their program. It's for adolescents 13 and up who are working through Cottonwood's juvenile services. And it's for community members who want a gym that actually gives a damn about why you're here.

If you're in recovery, on your way there, or just tired of white-knuckling it alone, there is a place for you inside these walls.
